Carey Kaufmann, '11 B.S., '13 M.S.L.D., College of Education and Human Services

As a 2013 graduate of the Master of Science in Leadership Development (M.S.L.D.) graduate program at Wright State University, Carey Kaufmann has quickly advanced in her
professional career. In addition to her position as end user support specialist at CaTS (Computing and Telecommunications Services) here at Wright State, Kaufmann is also the new supervisor of CaTS Home Base, where she manages six students and full-time professional staff. During her graduate program, Kaufmann was awarded a $400 competitive grant by the Graduate Student Assembly in 2013 to partially fund her conference presentation of her thesis proposal at the annual conference of the American Society forBusiness and Behavioral Sciences in February 2013.

Joe Deer, M.F.A., Trustees' Award for Faculty Excellence

Joe Deer, M.F.A., is the rare theatre scholar equally at home in the classroom, the rehearsal studio, or writing for professional publications.Deer has been Head of Wright State's highly successful Musical Theatre program since its inception, 18 years ago. His College of Liberal Arts students have gone on to perform around the globe in Broadway, international, and regional theatre productions. The program’s capstone Senior Showcase allows students to audition for theatre professionals in New York City.

His academic endeavors include writing numerous reviews, more than 30 journal articles, and two books. Acting in Musical Theatre: A Comprehensive Course was a landmark
publication in its field. He is also founding president of the Musical Theatre Educators’ Alliance.
