Alumni Profiles: Nina Carter, '04, '06 and Randy Marriott, '91

Nina Carter, '04 B.A., '06 M.P.A College of Liberal Arts

Nina Carter is employed by Miami Valley Child Development Centers, Incorporated, as program manager for the Edison T.O.T.S. (Taking Off To Success) Program, an early learning initiative that supports families with raising happy and healthy children who enter school ready to learn.

She has worked in the field of youth, family, and community development for seven years. Carter received her master’s degree in public administration in 2006, a B.A. in 2004 in mass communication with a minor in African/African American Studies, and national certification in Non-Profit Management and Leadership—all from Wright State University. She is an advisory board member for Hannah’s Treasure Chest in Centerville, Ohio, and board member for Life Skills, Inc. and Parity, Inc. both of Dayton, Ohio.

Carter has been actively engaged with the Wright State University’s Nonprofit Leadership Alliance as a student and alumna. She has held numerous positions within the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Alumni Society, such as acting vice president, fundraising committee co-chair, and most recently treasurer. Carter is committed to ensuring that NLA, both nationally and locally, increases its membership numbers and actively engages its members in an effort to positively impact the nonprofit sector’s growing need for capable and compassionate leaders.

She is married to Parris L. Carter (also a Wright State graduate, 1997 and 1999), and they have three beautiful children, Nya Michele, Parris Jr., and Princeton Elijah.


William Randolph “Randy” Marriott, '91 M.D. Boonshoft School of Medicine

Randy Marriott began his career in emergency medicine as a paramedic for the Dayton Fire Department in 1985, after graduating from Cedarville University where he served as an EMT-B and paramedic for both the university and the Cedarville Township Fire Department. He later completed medical school and residency training in emergency medicine at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. He then became a staff emergency physician at Miami Valley Hospital in 1994. His interests primarily involve EMS medical direction and both hospital and community disaster planning.

Marriott currently serves as the medical director for the Dayton Fire Department, the Riverside Fire Department, the City of Dayton Metropolitan Medical Response System, and the Miami Valley Fire District. He has been chair of the Emergency Operations Committee at Miami Valley Hospital since 1999. His operational medicine experience includes being the medical director for Ohio Task Force One which is a member of the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue System, and with which he has had several deployments, including to the World Trade Center and Hurricane Rita. His humanitarian efforts have included several medical mission trips to Central and South America. He also serves as a tactical medical physician with Kettering Regional SWAT. In addition, Marriott serves on several regional EMS and emergency preparedness committees, including being the chair of the Regional Physicians Advisory Board for Ohio EMS Region 2, and providing medical direction for several EMS educational programs. He is an emeritus member of the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation Board.

Marriott has lived in Centerville, Ohio, for 18 years with his wife Lynda and their three children, Rick, Lauren, and Leanna.
