Rockafield of ages: Alumni Association moves into former presidental house

For the first time in 43 years, Rockafield House will serve Wright State University in a different capacity.

Built in 1969 for the university’s first president, Brage Golding, and subsequently occupied by Wright State’s first five presidents and their families, Rockafield House is now Rockafield Alumni Center, the new home for alumni returning to campus.

Raj Soin College of Business welcomes a new dean, Joanne Li

Joanne Li, professor and chair of the Department of Finance at Towson University in Maryland, has been named dean of Wright State University’s Raj Soin College of Business.

They will learn about academics, campus life, scholarships, the admissions process and much more. We offer campus visits Monday through Friday.

Referring a future Raider is a great way to support your alma mater and give back to Wright State. Submit a referral and you can help connect a prospective student to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. We’ll take it from there!

Adia "Dr. Dia" Winfrey

Adia “Dr. Dia” Winfrey earned her Doctor of Psychology from Wright State University’s School of Professional Psychology in 2008. As a first-year doctoral student, she recognized the utility of integrating elements of hip-hop culture with psychology. Her dissertation, “Healing Young People thru Empowerment (H.Y.P.E.): A Hip-Hop Therapy Program for Black Adolescent Males,” was one of the first to positively showcase hip-hop culture.

Sally Struthers

When Sally Struthers came to Wright State University in 1977, she had never even heard of the field of art history. "I had no idea what I was going to major in," Struthers recalled. That would all change when she enrolled in an art history course her first quarter. "I knew then that I would go on to get my Ph.D. and teach art history in college," Struthers said.

Sports Updates

It’s summer time, but the teams are already gearing up for another year for Wright State Athletics.

Women’s basketball coach Mike Bradbury, coming off two straight 20-win seasons and two berths in post-season tournaments, hired former Valparaiso head coach Keith Freeman as an assistant coach. Freeman was the head coach at Valpo for 18 years, collecting nearly 300 wins.

Alum Notes

Mark Porter (1982)(B.S.B.), an agent New York Life Insurance Co.’s general office in Columbus, OH, was named to the 2012 Executive Council of New York Life Insurance. Members of the council are among the most successful of the company’s sales force of 11,900 licensed agents.

Stephan Bognar (1986)(B.F.A.) and fellow filmmaker Julia Reichert won the Audience Award for Best Short Documentary for Sparkle at the SilverDocs documentary film festival. Sparkle follows Dayton Contemporary Dance Company dancer Sheri “Sparkle” Williams as she recovers from a major injury.

Brittany Lawrence (2003)(B.S.B.), tax manager and Certified Public Accountant for accounting firm Clark Schaefer Hackett, was named to the Women in Business Networking Advisory Board."

Matthew Bockey (2008)(B.A.) graduated magna cum laude with a Juris Doctor degree from Capital University.

Michele Bon-Durant (1976) (B.F.A.), a volunteer at the Dayton Visual Arts Center in Dayton, OH, was named 2011 Volunteer of the Year out of 200-250 volunteers.
